The Sixties

These were fun days. I was working for Banta Printing and spending evenings and weekends trying to catch up on the type of painting I had to forgo while attending collage. I wasn't really free from abstraction and the doctrine of shock art expected by the high brow art establishment, but I could now stick out my tongue and revert to my fantasy art. I called it Romantic Realism. As I look back it was really a form of Impressionism/Expressionism with romantic subject matter. This stuff would not get me into graduate school or later teaching in a college or university. It did give me a taste of what art could be and the power to survive as an real artist in the last half of the 20th Century.
