This is a photo of the scene I had when I began the painting.
Since copying a photo or copying a scene is a rather boring experience for this artist, my painting is more a smorgasbord of emotional and visual experiences and relies upon some direct observation, some compositional play, some painting techniques and some snap shots. The snap-shots I used were mostly those I took at the art show, and therefore contain some participants. I deny any allegations that those portrayed in my painting paid me for including them. I also apologize to anyone whose likeness was used without first contacting them. In this day and age of litigiousness an artist must be diplomatic as well as cool.

Unfortunately, I didn’t photograph the result of the first few hours of sketching with paint at the event. The image below was taken after a few hours in the studio on May 5th. You might call this an "Impression." The French Impressionist would do something like this and call it finished. I'm not an Impressionist, but started this work in a similar way.    By the time this gets put up I've already worked more on the painting. I'll add another image tomorrow and again when I get more done. I can't predict when the work will be completed. I'm not even sure it will be successful. So far, it's been a gas, and I'm looking forward to painting. The problem will be, how much time can I devote to this at the expense of other obligations. If I were only younger and without so many commitments.
