I love looking out upon a beautiful landscape. There is something about the haze produced by a moist atmosphere that makes you feel free of the earth and taking flight like a bird. Yet when we actually look upon a  vista we know we are rooted on the ground. A painting often removes this attachment to reality and allows a viewer to forget were they are. This is not a bad thing but I wanted the viewer to feel both the atmosphere and the textures of objects close to touching them. In this work I use heavy textured paint in the foreground and smoother paint in the background. I try to give the feeling of the ruggedness of nature and the softness of misty mountains in the distance.
