In the summer of 2001 Mr. Hauck came to me with a request that I do a painting of his yard. I have not been too interested in working on commission, but this seemed to be an interesting challenge. I have been moving towards creative landscape painting for some time. First was work at the National Park Seminary in Forest Glen . I discovered that the magic of the site came from painting it. It was the act of working from a real site that allowed me to explore and invent. The imagination is a weak source for creativity but when coupled with direct observation, it can result in turning a painting into a work of art..
