When I took the painting outside to photograph it, it seemed incomplete. I decided that it must be displayed with the palette table. This cabinet had been in front of the painting all during the time I worked on it. The solution to the composition was to fabricate a trompe l'oeil palette table complete with paint tubes, brushes, and paint rags, and include it in front of the painting.

This was the first art work where I would combine ceramic
sculpture with painting. The subjects of these works were usually popular
items found in my studio or reproductions from magazines. The sculptures were of
tools or equipment used in the production of the art. Other works of this nature
art #167 "Diptych with Pickle" and #168 "Projection"

Poor photograph. At the time of the exhibit I could
not afford a professional photographer.
