Reception-Saturday- May 8th -- 3p.m.- 6p.m.

Retired art professor, Gerald King is doing a series of oil paintings inside the Franciscan Monastery Memorial Church of Washington, D.C. He started the series in June of 2003 and continues to be inspired by the rich architectural interior of the church. He went to the Monastery in N.E. Washington intending to paint the gardens and shrines. He was told they were beautiful and might be a source for another summer painting project. But, upon entering the Church, he was overwhelmed with the stained glass windows, relief sculpture and the majestic vaulted ceilings. This lead to a series of oil paintings featuring the four transept isles with shrines, altars, and relief sculpture.
From May 8th to June 20th these original oil paintings along with some of Gerald King's copies of Master works from the National Gallery of Art collection, will be shown in a special exhibition in the Main Lobby of the Friary of the Monastery.
The title of the show is "An Artist Visits the Holy Land of America." The show will be open to the public.
Matted and framed PRINTS and artist enhanced REPLICAS of Gerald King's recent works will be available for purchase in the Monastery Gift Store.
