February in Florence

For a studio-potato like me, Florence in February was regenerative.  God knows, I was hardly in need of inspiration, but that's what I got.  In the five short days I had, there was really no time to draw or sketch. Besides, it was cold and rainy. This did seem to discourage tourism and I didn't have to waste time in lines at the doors of the Uffitzi.
I began a series of paintings based upon this trip soon after I returned. Working from snapshots, short term memory and a feeling of awe, I began to explore different possibilities. Foremost in my thoughts were the seeming indifference of the most people to the inspiring environment. Perhaps the overcast skies, wetness and heavy clothing caused people to be too preoccupied with themselves to fully enjoy the experience. For me and several colleagues it was all too perfect.
This is an ongoing project and more works will be added as they are completed. Sales have already been good.
