Sketching at Music Junction
Some years ago I started to take my sketchbook to the Saturday evening music program at the
local used bookshop. They called the program Music Junction and it featured mostly local artists who had attained
somewhat of a reputation. Some, in my humble opinion, were vary good. I enjoyed my time by trying to sketch them
as they played. Often I would try to draw several figures in loose compositions and frequently added some
of the audience to create a more 3D spaces. These were sketches, not consummate drawings and were not altered or
enhanced later. Although I tried to animate the figures, it was difficult because they were constantly moving and
changing instruments. They are presented here with all of the flaws and mistakes of realism characterized by drawings
from the imagination or memory. This has been a healthy artistic experience for me. It is my hope that the memory
of The Riverdale Bookshop and The Music Junction . destroyed by greed and divestment, will be kindled by
these humble sketches and enjoyed as a wonderful episode in the history of Riverdale Park.
