Welcome to The Atelier Royal     Prior to photography artists were either sculptors or picture makers. This site is about a picture maker whose paintings  reflect his search for truth and beauty.  It is through drawing and painting from life that he develops a visual empathy with a subject. Unlike modern art that 'uses' subject matter to celebrate the artist, King uses his skills to celebrate the subject. His art is intended to serve man rather than fashion a marketing signature.

My life as a simple image maker who abandoned the mainstream to develop a personal artistic vision, is freely offered in this web site. This vision has been greatly influenced by exposure to the great art of the past, early 20th century illustration, photography, air travel, and a host of  scientific achievements of my time. Though I copy the art of the Old Masters and no longer accept or give consideration to most of what is anointed as art of the 20th century, I consider my work as unique, personal., and relevant to the world I live in. I can only pray that it is of such quality that it will be saved and enjoyed by future generations. --- Gerald King
